African American Doctor Depicted as Gorilla at UCLA Event
A respected African American faculty surgeon filed a racial discrimination suit against the UCLA Medical Center and UC Regents. Dr. Christian Head has been intentionally degraded based on his race and UCLA officials have ignored blatant acts of racial discrimination, including an edited photo depicting Dr. Head as a gorilla being sodomized by his supervisor. That alone is offensive. But the fact that the photo was publicly presented for laughs during an annual medical school sponsored event attended by more than 200 physicians, faculty, residents and guests is both shocking and indefensible. True Colours: Canada changes African American's life
It was 1942 and the USS Truxton was en route to a war-torn Europe. Among the crew was an African American sailor, Lanier Phillips, who joined the navy to escape the Deep South. When disaster struck off Canada's east coast, what followed changed his life. When the residents of St. Lawrence, Newfoundland reached out to Lanier Phillips with kindness, they changed his view of humanity and inspired him to greatness. Paul Johnson has this story.

Canada's oldest black community, based in the eastern province of Nova Scotia, are commemorating the country's black civil rights pioneers. Hundreds of people of African heritage, who lived in the area, were moved out to make way for a new bridge in the 1960s. The reconstruction of a church is the beginning of what many hope is a cultural revival of the community, which some believe has yet to achieve full acceptance and equality. America it's time to move on from separating races. My generation doesn't want to be called African American, because we are all 100% Americans. What's so hard about us being called Black Americans? If we were never born in Africa, then why do we have to have that title? My roommate Dwight doesn't like getting called African American either, and he's an example of other Black Americans who don't want to be called African Americans. The separation starts there, because we are being called Half Americans. Not all Africans are black, because there are a lot of white Africans. What if a white African comes over to America and they get their citizenship? Are they going to be labeled as an African American or white? If a real African is born in Africa and becomes an American citizen, they are an African American. It makes me feel like I'm half American, because they was born in Africa, but I'm still getting the same title as them. Its funny how real Africans think it's weird we are called African Americans. We don't have anything to do with Africa. I'm tired of living in the past and I want to move forward. It's time for us to become more united for our future generations.
