As the rest of Europe is being slowly absorbed by the Eurozone crisis, Bavaria is going from strength to strength. It's now the richest state in Germany, which is now the richest country in Europe. "We're living in paradise", boasts one Munich resident. Not so long ago the money men of Wall Street and London thought Germany was a bit of a joke, but no one's laughing now. And there's growing discontent amongst Germans about having to prop up the rest of the Eurozone. "These countries! They have to not spend too much money", says Dr Anton Kathrein, an industrialist. With Bavaria conspicuously having a great time, it is rapidly becoming a magnet for Europe's economic refugees. Juliana Salija escaped war torn Yugoslavia 17 years ago for a better life in Greece. Two months ago she fled there, where one in five are now jobless. "I love that place but it was impossible", she says. So what is the secret to this German success and are they justified in criticising their neighbours' work ethic? This report goes in search of some answers. Bamberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany. It is located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz, close to its confluence with the river Main. Bamberg is one of the few cities in Germany that was not destroyed by World War II bombings because of a nearby Artillery Factory that prevented planes from getting near to Bamberg. Bamberg is home to nearly 7000 foreign nationals, including over 4100 members of the United States Army and their dependents. The name Bamberg is supposed to have its origin in the House of Babenberg.History During the post-Roman centuries of Germanic migration and settlement, the region afterwards included in the Diocese of Bamberg was inhabited for the most part by Slavs. The town, first mentioned in 902, grew up by the castle (Babenberch) which gave its name to the Babenberg family. On their extinction it passed to the Saxon house. The area was Christianized chiefly by the monks of the Benedictine Fulda Abbey, and the land was under the spiritual authority of the Diocese of Würzburg. In 1007, Henry II, King of the Romans, made Bamberg a family inheritance, the seat of a separate diocese. The emperor's purpose in this was to make the Diocese of Würzburg less unwieldy in size and to give Christianity a firmer footing in the districts of Franconia, east of Bamberg. In 1008, after long negotiations with the Bishops of Würzburg and Eichstätt, who were to cede portions of their dioceses, the boundaries of the new diocese were defined, and Pope John XVIII <b>...</b>

Eight VFX Goes a Long Way for one 'Drop' of Bavaria Beer
Sometimes the tiniest objects can present the greatest challenges. Such is the case with "The Drop," a new spot for Bavaria Beer directed by Matthijs van Heijningen (Bonkers/Amsterdam) via Selmore, and featuring extensive work from Eight VFX. The spot tells the tale of a single drop of water making its way from one of the purest wells in the world to a tap of Bavaria Beer. On its journey, our little drop faces myriad challenges, trying to remain pure amidst tough terrain and bad weather, before it can be mixed with hopps and wheat. He even experiences a very close call with a predatory spider. No spoilers here, though; you have to watch the spot to find out how our valiant hero's journey ends.

Bavaria / Switzerland Backpacking Adventure
Day one: Train from Berlin to Sonthofen (Allgäu) Bavaria - Southern Germany. Day two: Train from Sonthofen to Fussen. Paragliding over Neushwanstein Castle. Day three: Train from Sonthofen to Interlaken Switzerland. We stayed at Balmers Lodge Hostel. Highly recommend this if you are young. It is a rather loud party type atmosphere so if you are not into that, go somewhere else. Day four: Trummelbach Waterfall and we took a ski lift to the peak of Schilthorn. Day five: Cayoning including rapelling 150 foot cliffs, jumping off of 60 foot rocks, slides, swings, and some other technical rope work (video footage not in this video). Day 5 there was also an enormous hail storm that blew through Interlaken. Day 6 : Went back to Trummelbach falls, yes it was that cool), and did a small hike from Lauterbrunnen, roughly 4600 feet climb. Day 7: Train from Interlaken, Switzerland back to Berlin with a quick stop in Zurick. Overall assessment of the trip. Life changing. From this point in my life (2011), Switzerland is the only place other than the US that I would ever consider actually living in. I still need to try out Australia though! No worries, unless another country adopts the freedom to carry weapons, I will not be leaving the United States :)
