Poem

Here's a little poem I wrote over 11 years ago. Before you ask, it was inspired by a girl, but the actual events that took place don't match the poem exactly. Anyway, I was trying to go to sleep one night and kept tossing and turning with these words running through my head. I couldn't get to sleep until I got up and put the words down on paper. I have written other poems, but I am most proud of this one. The music over this video is by Enya and it is titled "March of the Celts". With writing poems and listening to Enya, I guess I should also let you guys know that I am completely straight. (Just thought I'd add that in) For you my love's been growing from the day that we first met. You have always had my heart, but your heart I could not get. We became the best of friends but I kept my love inside, because I didn't want to take the chance of having it denied. And then one day I got the nerve to tell you how I feel 'cause all the love I had for you could no longer be concealed. To my surprise you told me that you wanted more yourself, but as friends we grew too close to take a chance at something else. You said that I was like your brother knowing secrets from your past and if we took a chance as lovers, then our friendship wouldn't last. I listened to your words, but to me they made no sense. So to try to stop the pain inside I took up a defense. I told myself that there were other fish in the sea, and a girl would have to be a fool to deny a guy like me. I thought I ...

3-year-old recites poem, "Litany" by Billy Collins

This is my 3-year-old son. He loves poetry and he loves to memorize. Here he is reciting a poem called "Litany" by Billy Collins. Here is the text: "You are the bread and the knife, the crystal goblet and the wine. You are the dew on the morning grass and the burning wheel of the sun. You are the white apron of the baker, and the marsh birds suddenly in flight. However, you are not the wind in the orchard, the plums on the counter, or the house of cards. And you are certainly not the pine-scented air. There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air. It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge, maybe even the pigeon on the general's head, but you are not even close to being the field of cornflowers at dusk. And a quick look in the mirror will show that you are neither the boots in the corner nor the boat asleep in its boathouse. It might interest you to know, speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world, that I am the sound of rain on the roof. I also happen to be the shooting star, the evening paper blowing down an alley and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table. I am also the moon in the trees and the blind woman's tea cup. But don't worry, I'm not the bread and the knife. You are still the bread and the knife. You will always be the bread and the knife, not to mention the crystal goblet and--somehow--the wine."

Moustache - A Poem

charliemcdonnell.com A poem about Moustaches, by Charlie McDonnell ... How I wish I could grow a moustache, so that people could see me as cool. With a fashionable style, a furry smile, the ladies would drown in their drool. Oh I wish I could grow a moustache, so that people could think me a man. I would work on a farm, have a rugged charm, and probably drive a white van. I wish I could form a moustache, maybe people would think I was snappy. I would keep it in trim, I would go to the gym, with some hair on my lip, I'd be happy. How I long, and long, for a moustache, so people could think I was smart. I would hypothesise, that a moustache is wise, and then show my results, in a chart. I wish I could own a moustache, so that people could think me their friend. With a jolly old tash, I would sure be a smash, and a man on which you could depend. But alas, I cannot grow a moustache, my face is unfavourably bare. And now I have disclosed, that my lip is exposed, 'til I can, a fake moustache, I wear.

Superhero - A Visual Poem

Mental illness touches everyone: our friends, co-workers, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters ... and even our children. The statistics are staggering ... 1 in 5 suffer from a mental illness, that's 20% of our population but yet only 4% of the total healthcare budget is spent on our mental health. As a result, mental illness drains 51 billion dollars in lost productivity from the Canadian economy each year. We need to do more than just talk about it, we need to invest in programs and services that will make a difference in people's lives. The stigma is huge and until we accept people with a mental illness we won't be able to move forward and make a real difference. Remember mental illness affects us all so please help where you can. Let's start with acceptance.

iamammar.com This poem was originally inspired by this video www.youtube.com This poem was written by Ammar Alshukry and produced by Belal Khan in the form of Kinetic Typography. Close your eyes and imagine this Eternal bliss, your every wish, at your finger tips and more... Perched on a throne, near a stream So serene, and exquisite a scene You've never seen Yet you still dream of more... Gone is pain, gone is fear Gone is grief, gone are tears Idle speech you shall never hear And the Prophets make up your social sphere and more... The martyrs, righteous and truthful too You are from them, and they from you They held tightly to what they knew was true and To join them, you did too theres more... Maidens, chaste, who restrain their gaze Lost in a glance for days and days Fun and frolic, as a child plays Where the breath that leaves your lips is praise of the One who gave you more Imagine you and your father, with ages the same Imagine showing off your book with no shame Imagine nights with the sahabah, with their stories to entertain Imagine Muhammad (Sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) knowing your name What could be there more.. Gardens underneath which rivers flow A goal so far, and yet so close A journey worth taking, for those who know Tell me Do you not wish to go.. for more? For all the bounties, all the grace All the sights and the smells and the tastes Will be forgotten, without a trace as if frozen in time and space When you see His Face What an excellent Master, of a ...

Poetic Genius (original song)

This is one of the few songs I've written that morphed from a poem into a song. This simple tune is based on a poem I wrote when I was much younger, entitled "Poetic Genius." I've modified some of the lines so that they can be sung rather than just read. Hope you enjoy it! myspace.com Facebook: Reina Del Cid If I were some poetic genius sitting on the veranda of the one I love in the morning when the stars just wont fade out yet I think I'd write a little haiku I would write a little haiku I think I'd write a little haiku for you I'd post it on the moon some night when it's dark enough for you to see it up above maybe you'd just sit back and smile at how much a silly little human can love (guitar) If I were some nomadic sailor and I had to leave you on the shore I have a feeling my heart wouldn't stop aching so I'd write you a million letters I would write a million letters you would get a million letters or more I'd post them on the moon some night when it's dark enough maybe you'd just sit back and smile at how much a silly little human can love I'd post them on the moon some night when it's dark enough for you to see them up above maybe you'd just sit back and smile at how much a silly little human can how much a silly little human can love

Lauren Zuniga, To the Oklahoma Lawmakers: a poem

Lauren Zuniga performs a poem for the Oklahoma legislators that continually propose anti-choice legislation. The bill referred to here would require women to receive an ultrasound and listen to the baby's heartbeat before an abortion. It is still being challenged in court. Since 2010, various other bills including, "No Fetus in Food" and "Personhood" have been introduced as a way to circumvent Roe V. Wade and shame women. View more poems at laurenzuniga.com

Laurie Halse Anderson - Speak Poem

Over the past ten years, Laurie has received thousands and thousands of emails and letters from readers about how Speak has given them the courage to speak up. The first stanza of the poem and the last are Lauries words. Everything in the middle, all of the stanzas that start with the word YOU are words and phrases from letters that were sent to the author. Laurie Halse Anderson (www.writerlady.com) is the author of the genre defining YA novel Speak. Speak was a National Book Award Finalist, a Michael L. Printz Award Honor Book for excellence in young adult literature, and was named a best book of the year by Publishers Weekly, Booklist, School Library Journal and Horn Book. 10 Things I Hate About You. (poem)

I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. I hate you much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
The Man From Snowy River - Banjo's Poem

Banjo Paterson wrote the poem 'The Man From Snowy River'. Its as Australian as you can get. He tells the story of the tough horsemen of Snowy Mountains. Footage is from the movie 'Man From Snowy River' presented by Michael Edgley International & Cambridge Films - perhaps the greatest movie ever made in Australia by Australians. It stars Tom Burlinson, Jack Thompson, Sigrid Thornton and Kirk Douglas (for US distribution purposes & the money men), he did a pretty good job all in all. For those of you who have not seen the movie do yourselves a favor and go get the DVD. You will not regret it.

Rumi: Say I Am You (Sufi poem)

Rumi's poems elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go beyond our limitations towards the Divine. The music: The credits do appear at the end of this video, but it is by the composer, Eleni Karaindrou, and is the theme music called "Eternity and a Day" from the movie, Aggelopoulos. A note on the music: This entire video was constructed in silence-only the poem and the images were put together without my knowing what music would be the right one. The music is so important to the interpretation of these poems. Rather than reading them, the music is my voice. When I 'laid' this beautiful piece of music over the video it fit perfectly. Few edits were made to accomodate the images to fit the music. They seem to be made for each other. Note for those who overlook the message and want to 'claim' Rumi as their own (country, nationality, language) they've missed the point completely and these comments will be deleted. Jim Morrison - Stoned Immaculate (The poem).

From the album "An American Prayer" Vocals by Jim Morrison Music by The Doors Lyrics: I'll tell you this, No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn. Back in those days everything was simpler and more confused One summer night, going to the pier I ran into two young girls The blond was called Freedom The dark one, Enterprise We talked and they told me this story Now listen to this... I'll tell you about Texas radio and the big beat Soft driven, slow and mad like some new language. Reaching your head with the cold, sudden fury of a divine messenger Let me tell you about heartache and the loss of god Wandering, wandering in hopeless night Out here in the perimeter there are no stars Out here we is stoned... Immaculate.
