Another Original Progressive Rock/Metal Song by Steven DeMartini

SUBSCRIBE! Working on more original music! I love feedback, and please rate too! I wrote this song junior year of high school (so around 2007 or 2008), and I have performed it three or four times with a few different musicians. I've gotta thank Josef Kay for helping to write some of the bass parts back then and influencing how this song turned out. Also, these drum parts are somewhat based on what Nico Spence played when we performed. I have updated riffs and changed a few things, but the song is generally the same as it was when it was written. If you're wondering why it's not quite as technical as my first original YouTube upload, it's because I wrote the song a while ago. But I hope you still enjoy it regardless. I recorded the song using Reaper as my DAW. The guitar and bass were recorded by me, direct into the computer with no microphones or amps. I used Guitar Rig 3 for the guitar tones. I wrote out the drum parts and ran the midi file through a virtual instrument for the realistic sound because I had no way of miking and recording my own live drums. As with my last YouTube upload, this song is still untitled. I am planning on putting up an EP in the not-too-distant future after I get a couple more songs finished, and by then I will come up with names for all of my songs at last haha. My guitar on the recording and in this video is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR, and the bass is an old Squier P-Bass. Both are tuned standard. Copyright 2010 Steven DeMartini

Yes - Close to the Edge [part 1]

Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 and generally regarded as one of the archetypal bands of the genre. Despite a great many lineup changes, occasional splits within the group and the ever-changing trends in popular music, the band has continued on for over forty years and still retains a large following. The band's music blends symphonic and other 'classical' structures with their own brand of rock music, which is marked by sharp dynamic contrasts, extended song lengths, abstract lyrics, and a general showcasing of instrumental prowess. Although the band's sole consistent member has been bass player Chris Squire (noted for his highly melodic and discursive playing as well as his early use of electronic effects), Yes is also generally noted for the distinctive high-register vocals of lead singer Jon Anderson and the eclectic musical stylings of a succession of guitarists (Peter Banks, Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin, Billy Sherwood), keyboard players (Tony Kaye, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Geoff Downes, Igor Khoroshev) and drummers (Bill Bruford and Alan White). Several band members became celebrated musicians and/or bandleaders in their own right, and a 1980 lineup of the band was briefly fronted by future production star Trevor Horn. ________________________________________ Lyrics here: www.sing365.com

Progressive Rock : Mostly Autumn - "Carpe Diem"

Movie recorded at a concert in Uden, Holland, in March 2009. Mostly Autumn is a British band, producing music heavily influenced by classic 70s rock. The group formed in 1996, and have built their reputation through constant touring, never signing to a major label. The group's early influences were Genesis and Pink Floyd, and folk music. Later albums have also included more contemporary influences. Carpe Diem" is a track from the Bands 'Storms Over Still Water' Album " and reflects on the Tsunami disaster. Lead/solo guitar comes from founder member Bryan Josh with soaring vocals from Olivia Sparnenn. Personal Note : Great gig and it's perhaps worth noting that Olivia Sparnenn is not even the bands main singer - that honour goes to Heather Findlay who unfortunately had to miss this particular concert. There is often some lively debate about the quality of the bands singers - much as I love Heather and can't ever imagine Mostly Autumn without her ... all I can say is after a performance like the one Olivia gave in Uden, she is perhaps 'under-used' in her role as main backing singer ... but as I say, can't imagine Mostly Autumn without Heather!

Progressive Rock : Marillion - "Seasons End" and 'Let It Snow'

Movie recorded at a concert in Cardiff, South Wales in December 2007. Marillion are a British Prog Rock group. Formed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England in 1979, their recorded studio output comprises fifteen albums and is generally regarded as comprising two distinct eras, delineated by the departure of original vocalist & frontman Fish in late 1988 after their first four albums, and the subsequent arrival of replacement Steve Hogarth ("H") in early 1989. Marillion has thus far released eleven albums with Hogarth. "Seasons End" was the first album recorded by Marillion after the split with Fish in late 1988 and the song in the Movie is the title track. Band line up : Steve Hogarth, vocals; Steve Rothery, guitars; Mark Kelly, keyboards; Peter Trewavas, bass; Ian Mosley, percussion As for the "Let it Snow" clip near the end - well it was a Christmas Gig ... enough said, lol!

Most Underrated Prog Rock Band Curved Air Eddie Jobson Air Cut UHF

www.uk70sprogrock.com http www.facebook.com www.myspace.com www.twitter.com Most Underrated Prog Rock Band Curved Air Eddie Jobson Air Cut UHF Perhaps the most under-rated album of all the seventies. Starring Eddie Jobson, late of the almost forgotten fat Grapple, Eddie was one of those very rare things, a musical genius. Barely 18, he was the most mind blowing keyboard player imaginable and as for his violin work, well. No wonder the musically inept Roxy Music snapped him up (and then Jethro, Zappa and so on). Another boy genius, Kirby (Gregory), now working in rehabilitation, was a guitarist's guitarist. Jim Russell (of Armada) was another fabulous musician, and with the glue of old timers Mike Wedgwood and Sonja to hold it all together, they pulled off a real cracker. High point is, of course, 'Metamorphosis', written by Eddie, with just amazing playing from all. Mike's Fender Precision Fretless bass really drives, and the heavy bit is just Mike, Eddie and Jim, recorded in one take with no overdubbing. Just listen to Mike and Sonja alternating leads on 'Easy', and hear Kirby's solos in that and in 2-3-2. Armin is a really cool instrumental, and the great thing is that they could do it live so well. Not only that, but they did the old Curved Air stuff better than the old Curved Air. Perhaps it didn't have quite the loose artistry of the old CA, but, by God, it rocked! This is such a good album by a bunch of kids, really: old timer Mike was just 23 and Sonja just a year ...
