Buurtwinkels: De Jodenbreestraat voor de oorlog
'Wanneer ik door de Jodenbreestraat loop, zie ik alleen de huizen uit mijn jeugd' zegt Jaap van Velzen. Hij woonde als jongen in de Jodenbreestraat 19. Voor de tentoonstelling Buurtwinkels filmden we hem terwijl hij wandelde door de straat, die ooit een van de levendigste straten van de Amsterdamse jodenbuurt was. Het 4 en 5 mei comité roept Amsterdammers op om op 4 mei posters met de tekst 1 van de 21.662 huizen waar joden woonden die in de 2e wereldoorlog werden vermoord op hun raam te hangen, als zij in een huis woonden waar toen joden die weggehaald zijn. Het huis van Jaap van Velzen, Jodenbreestraat 19, staat ook op het Digitaal Joods Monument. Jaap overleefde als enige van alle bewoners. Het pand bestaat niet meer. Na de oorlog lag de halve straat in puin, vanwege de strooptochten van Amsterdammers die op zoek naar brandhout al het hout uit de huizen gesloopt hadden. Loop mee met Jaap van Velzen door de straat van zijn jeugd en luister naar zijn verhalen over de smaken en geuren van bakkerij Theeboom, poelier Veerman en kruidenier Rimini.
